Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and Terracotta Warriors:The Guardian Army of China's First Emperor
The Terracotta Warriors are located in Xi'an,China, and are one of the most famous archaeological discoveries in the world. In 1974,local farmers accidentally discovered them while digging a well.
These terracotta figures were built for Qin Shi Huang. Qin Shi Huang was China's first emperor, who unified China and hoped to still have an army to protect him after death. Therefore, thousands of soldiers, chariots and horses were made into terracotta figures,
buried underground to guard him.
Three main pits:
· Pit 1:The largest,with more than 6000 soldier figures,arranged neatly like a real army.
· Pit 2:With infantry, cavalry and chariots, the formation is more complex.
· Pit 3:The smallest,possibly the command post.
Every Terracotta Warrior is unique——their appearances, hairstyles and expressions are all different. They originally held real weapons and were painted in bright colors, but after more than two thousand years, most of the colors have fallen off.
Today, the Terracotta Warriors are known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World",and have been listed by the United Nations as a World Cultural Heritage site. If you come to Xi'an,you must see this army that has remained silent for more than two thousand years with your own eyes.

Why was this pagoda built?
In the 7th century AD,the famous monk Xuanzang returned from India after seeking Buddhist scriptures, bringing back a large number of Buddhist scriptures and statues.
