When is the best time to see red leaves in Henan? Our field research in Taihang Mountain, Funiu Mountain, and Dabie Mountain reveals the color variation patterns through data and imagery—this not only affects the timing for experiencing Central China's natural wonders but also directly guides photography at Yuntai Mountain and hiking route planning in Baligou, as well as the harvest scenery effects in Xixia's ancient village farmlands.
From September 25 to October 28, 2024, Henan Letu Travel Agency partnered with Henan Meteorological Service Center and Luoyang Forestry Science Research Institute to establish 12 fixed observation points in southern Taihang Mountain (Shibanyan Town, Linzhou), Funiu Mountain's main peak area (Laojunshan North Slope, Luanchuan), and northern Dabie Mountain (Jigongshan, Xinyang). Continuous data collection included leaf color index (CI value), daily average temperature, diurnal temperature range, and elevation. Results show: The initial reddening period correlates strongly with 12°C–15°C daily temperatures, but significant temporal differences exist in the 'peak viewing periods' across the three locations.
Taihang Mountain's large elevation drop (800–1,600m) and clear cold air caused sporadic color changes by late September, with the full peak occurring October 15–25. Funiu Mountain's mid-high elevation zone (1,200–1,800m), influenced by warm humid airflow, peaked later (October 20–30). Dabie Mountain's northern section, sheltered by terrain, extended its peak to early November with leaves lasting 18–22 days—5–7 days longer than Taihang.
Notably, slope aspect creates dramatic variations: Southern Taihang's east slope (windward) colors 3–5 days earlier than the west slope. Funiu's shaded slopes show 12% higher CI saturation than sunny slopes—critical intelligence for photography route design.

Different client groups require tailored approaches. Based on 2023–2024 operational data (87 photography groups, 42 study tours, 63 senior wellness groups), we identified three high-match application scenarios:

As Henan's direct service provider, we integrate ticketing systems across all three locations with 27 contracted hotels and 19 certified guide teams. Below table uses 2024 peak season (October 10–November 15) real-time reservation data to evaluate operational stability for B2B partners:
This validates our 'Three-Mountain Resource Pool' mechanism: When one area faces room shortages, cross-mountain reallocation (e.g., diverting Funiu groups to Dabie's equivalent hotels) activates within 4 hours, maintaining 99.3% contract fulfillment (2024 Q3 audit report).
Addressing red-leaf season's high-frequency, short-cycle, experience-intensive characteristics, we offer quantifiable commitments:
