Will the best spot for photographing the sunrise over the Yellow River shift after the Xiaolangdi Dam water and sediment regulation project in 2026? First-ever public release of measured data on altitude and light effects! This report also connects with core experiences such as the idyllic scenery of ancient villages in western Henan and the natural wonders of the Central Plains, providing precise decision-making support for photography enthusiasts, study tour planners, and cultural tourism purchasers.
Henan Lelu Travel Agency Co., Ltd., in conjunction with the Luoyang Meteorological Bureau and the technical team of the Xiaolangdi Management Center of the Yellow River Conservancy Commission, conducted a 15-day field survey from June 21 to July 5, 2026 (the peak period of water and sediment regulation). Using an RTK high-precision positioning instrument (±2cm accuracy), a portable spectrometer (380–780nm band), and a digital elevation model (DEM) overlay comparison, they completed the remeasurement of altitude and modeling of morning light incidence angles at three traditionally popular viewpoints (the terrace on the north bank of Mawan Village, the Guanheping in Shijing Town, and the viewing platform on the south slope of Wangwu Mountain).
The results showed that the elevation of the terrace on the north bank of Mawan Village was significantly raised due to siltation, with the measured elevation increasing from 138.6m in 2023 to 142.3m (+3.7m). This resulted in an increase of 2.1° in the sunrise elevation angle and a shortening of the golden hour (12–18 minutes after sunrise) by about 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Meanwhile, Guanheping in Shijing Town was affected by erosion, with some bedrock exposed and the elevation decreasing slightly by 0.4m. However, the field of vision was improved by 17%, making it the site with the best overall light effect.
This field measurement covered the annual sunrise azimuth range (112°–124°), confirming that the viewpoint displacement is non-linear and requires dynamic adjustment based on the lunar calendar, cloud cover level (for cloud-2 and above, a backup viewpoint is recommended), and wind speed (for winds >4 m/s, an east-facing sheltered location is recommended). This conclusion has been incorporated into our agency's standard operating procedure, "Yellow River Ecological Photography Service SOP Version 3.2".

To address the B2B needs of cultural and tourism institutions in procurement, study tour planning, and photography group operations, we have identified five rigid evaluation indicators, each with a quantifiable threshold. The table below is based on actual measurement data from 2026 and applies to standardized operational scenarios with a single group of ≥15 people, total equipment weight ≤80kg, and a stay duration of 3–5 hours:
Analysis: Guanheping in Shijing Town scored the highest in the "lighting effectiveness-timeliness-safety" triangle balance, making it particularly suitable for educational projects. Its flat terrain supports the setup of mobile teaching points for up to 30 people, and it is only 5.2 kilometers away from the nearest medical point (a 9-minute drive), meeting the emergency response requirements of Article 4.3.2 of the "Safety Service Specifications for Study Tours" GB/T 36727-2018.
While the value of a single photography location is limited, what truly enhances the weight of procurement decisions is its synergistic efficiency across the entire product chain. Our organization has designated Guanheping in Shijing Town, newly confirmed in 2026, as the core anchor point of the "Yellow River Civilization Tracing Line," forming a three-tiered linkage with surrounding resources:
This combination plan has been registered with the Henan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism as a "High-Quality Study Tour Course" (registration number: YX2026-HN-087). It supports flexible splitting into single-day/two-day modules according to the school's class hour requirements, and the delivery cycle is stably controlled within 7-10 working days.
